Wheelersburg Ohio is a small town in Southern Ohio. Wheelersburg was originally names Concord and later had its name changed in 1893 to honor one of the early settlers, Major Porter Wheeler. The small town of Wheelersburg lies on the Northern Bank of the Ohio River. Wheelersburg is located inScioto County and is not far from Portsmouth, Ohio. Like many other small towns in Scioto County Wheelersburg is near the Ohio and Kentucky border. There are many picturesque places in this part of Ohio near the Appalachian hills. One hot spot for picnicking and camping is Jackson Lake State Park. You will find beautiful views and loads of fun from boating and swimming to picnics and in the winter, you are also able to sled!

Another unique offering in the Wheelersburg area is the Portsmouth Flood Wall Murals. People travel from miles around to see the stunning murals on the wall that protects the city of Portsmouth from flooding from the Ohio River. After many years of floods destroying property a large Flood Wall was constructed. The flood wall has done an excellent job of protecting the city from the devastating floods;however, it was not pleasing to the eye. In 1993 the first mural was painted on the flood wall and now there are 55 murals that display the amazing history of the Ohio River Valley.
